Income splitting for tax purposes.?

Will either major party really help the traditional family unit? They have $$$ for childcare and private schools -but what about single income family of mum, dad and 4 kids? INCOME SPLITTING for TAX purposes would be great. Lets face it, Centrelink looks at both together when assessing. Shouldn't the tax office?? It would really help the traditional familoy unit!Income splitting for tax purposes.?
The rich has done income splitting since.....?

The use of Family Trusts!

The Commissioner of Taxation has been trying to curb the use of Family Trusts - or at least make it more equitable. Why? Salary/wage earners generally can't split income. Salary/wage earners are generally the poor. Should give the Commissioners (both the current and the previous) thumbs up for this.

But - the Tax Office is only an administrator of the legislation though - there's only so much that they can do.

Try to push the government to do it.

I understand - I may be wrong - the reason why the government from both sides can't figure out the best way to tidy up the whole shananigan with Family Trusts is because most of them have one.

Others - please comment.Income splitting for tax purposes.?
In some ways, it already does. By offering back a Family Tax B with an amount per child (was about $600 per child the past few financial years) which was equivalent to lifting your tax free threshold by $4000 per child.

It seems that it is now down to $324.85, this is effectively a lift to your tax free threshold of $2165 per child. However, there is still a family tax B for single income families taken on the non-working spouse's income - this is another alternative to income splitting.

Personally, I would rather they just allowed splitting of income for tax purposes as well, it would also alleviate the huge future problem of underprovision of superannuation for women who have often had years break from the workforce or only engaged in casual employment.
