I know it had to do with Pym and that section of Parliament being too radical, driving the others to become Royalists, but what events caused this rift? What did the radical Parliament demand/state that the ';Royalists'; disagreed with?When and why did Parliament split in 1641-1642?
The dividing point was probably the Grand Remonstrance; this document was so extreme that it alienated many MPs who had previously sided against Charles.
However, the differences were more a matter of degree than of differences in philosophy--the question was where to draw the lines of power between king and parliament, not of giving all power to one side or the other.
